Arguably the benchmark Pinot Noir festival in the U.S., World of Pinot Noir takes place the first full weekend in March and includes two days of in-depth Tasting Seminars, Grand Tastings (each with a unique roster of wineries), a Featured Tasting with a guest Burgundian producer and two Gala Pinot Noir Dinners featuring prominent guest chefs. These food and wine extravaganzas are hosted by participating wineries and feature an outstanding panel of sommeliers from across the U.S.

The Cliffs Restaurant in Shell Beach, CA, plays host to the event, and I must say, this is a stellar facility in a beautiful location. The event kicks off with a seminar by John Haeger, author of "North American Pinot Noir," possibly the seminal book on the subject of Pinot Noir.

Below : Those participants selecting Seminar "A" are driven out to Laetitia Vineyards and Winery for a seminar on the pioneers of west coast Pinot Noir. Considered true legends of Pinot Noir (as well as Pied Pipers for the variety on the West Coast), these 4 gentlemen almost single-handedly started the New World Pinot Noir revolution. Join us as we listen to 4 pinot pioneers: Richard Sanford, Josh Jensen, Larry Hyde, and David Hirsch, as they discuss the early roots of their respective vineyards of Pinot Noir in California, and we hear about the trials and tribulations of this “Heartbreak Grape.” Moderated by the James Beard Award Winner - Anthony Dias Blue.
